While browsing the web recently, Portland Administrative Assistant Jennifer Kiefer ran across this circa 1950s photo of the Portland facility. In January 1987, Portland opened as the first Work Release Center in Kentucky. The build-ing also formerly served as a VOA thrift store.

Along the rear fence of the facility, Orlando Resident Roger Goldenburg planted a garden which includes tomatoes, egg plant, squash, jalapeno peppers, beans, cucumbers, flowers, and several herbs.
