The Atlanta program, in partnership with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, held a premiere screening of the documentary, Released: When Does the Sentence End? The 45-minute film, directed by Georgia native and U.S. Attorney Forrest Tuff, notes that offenders participate in job development programs intended to prepare and connect them with employment opportunities. However, opportunities for meaningful and sustainable employment are frequently scarce. The film challenges the public to reflect on how it views these returning citizens. It also confronts how people released from prison continue to pay for their mistakes while holding out hope for a more positive future. The Atlanta screening was open to residents, staff and members of the Community Relations Board. The screening was followed by a 30-minute question-and-answer session and panel discussion consisting of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, U.S. Probation, three former Atlanta residents, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and Atlanta Director Stephen Ricks.
