As part of their observance of Black History Month, four residents from the Dania Beach facility volunteered their time in early February for the rededication of Chester Byrd Park by setting up for the event and directing traffic. Byrd was the first African American Mayor of Dania Beach. The family friendly rededication, was held to celebrate the park’s recent fitness upgrades and featured permanent art installations at the park, a portrait of Mayor Byrd and interactive art activities and paintings. Other activities included a free food giveaway, lawn games, fitness demonstrations, healthy living exhibitors, music and food.
