Three Diersen residents took part and shared their story at a Y-Now event, a program of the YMCA Safe Place Services designed for youth with incarcerated parents. “These children are more likely to feel shame, blame, and fear,” said Director Ronyal Horton. “They also struggle academically, and find it difficult to trust adults.” Studies show they are also seven times more likely to become incarcerated. There were 10 mentors and 22 children present.
