15th Day Event Was “Berry” Educational

During a 15 Thousand Farmers 15th Day Celebration held at the Dismas Charities Diersen facility in Louisville, certified arborist, horticulturist and nursery owner Eric Garris held a workshop on berry growing. Garris, who currently works at the Berheim Forest Arboretum and Research Forest, demonstrated how to raise strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. He has agreed to future speaking appearances at the monthly celebration and volunteering at the expanding Dismas St. Ann garden and orchard. The garden project receives assistance from 15Thousand Farmers, which seeks to raise urban family awareness that, with a little effort, folks can grow many of their own food items and become less reliant on grocery stores. During the program, some of the 50 attendees traded seeds and purchased raised beds for growing their own food.
