At a recent Community Relations Board meeting, ClarksburgHome Detention Resident Petrus Hawkins shared his journey and successes since leaving the facility. Hawkins (standing) is currently on home detention and is now a full time employee with a gas and oil company. He has achieved nearly all of the goals he set including obtaining shared custody of his young son. As a result of his presentation, Hawkins has received offers from the Clarksburg and Bridgeport City Police departments to travel with them during their educational trips to elementary and high schools to speak to students. He has also been asked to participate in the development of a youth volunteer basketball group in partnership with the Harrison County Family Resource Network and the Monticello Ongoing Revitalization Effort. In addition, he has been asked to speak to the participants of the Harrison County Day Reporting Center about his successes in the Dismas program “Hawkins has excelled in the Dismas Charities program and is a great testimonial to the positive outcomes a resident can have with the motivation and support from the community and Dismas staff,” said Director Emily Gillispie.
