Dismas Charities Montgomery Residents Learn Fatherhood, Job Readiness And Work Readiness Skills

Six residents from the Montgomery facility are participating in intensive self-help Family Guidance Center programs designed to assist them with employment and interacting with others. The programs, Fatherhood/Job Readiness and Work Readiness, cover two and four weeks, respectively. The Fatherhood segment covers re-connecting with children and other youngsters with whom they had a relationship prior to incarceration. Participants learn effective communication with children, how to provide and care for them and establish boundaries with them as well as their mothers. The Job Readiness sector teaches job search and interviewing skills, how to dress for success and assistance with resume writing and cover letters. The Work Readiness session offers hands-on experience in job searching and the “how to’s” of getting employed, guidance in entering college, vocational college or a credentialing program, and help enrolling in and obtaining a GED. Participants also received a $100 stipend for participating. William Edwards (above left) and Elsea Wolfe recently attended their graduation ceremony.
