Every year since 1813, a large parade is held in Savannah, Georgia
to mark St. Patrick’s Day. The massive, four-hour event draws
thousands of spectators and includes appearances by the Budweiser
Clydesdales, police and firemen from as far away as New York and
Oregon, members of the military, local and nationally-known bands
and several descendants of Irish settlers. Following the parade, 17
Dismas residents and staff members, including Social Services Coordinator
Brandon Miller and Resident Monitor Renee’ Williams,
cleaned the three-mile parade route. The daughters of Director Katina
Wheeler and Resident Monitor Magyn Pietrzykowski were also
part of the parade. The parade is said to be second in size to a similar
event in New York City.
