Orlando residents (from left) Jared James and Timothy Smith graduated from the Core Construction Program at Valencia College. The residents went through a grueling eight-week course where they learned the core essentials of construction and how to operate construction equipment. Both residents received certificates in the field of Core Construction. According to representatives, the program is “background tolerant” as is the industry, and once students complete the program they are helped finding employment. Macon residents Onterrio Jackson and Patrick English attended the Virtual Job Training Class at the Helms Career Center. The on-line class consists of seven training modules: job searching and networking, job applications, resume writing, cover letters, interviewing and workplace skills, job success, and workplace basics. Once a resident successfully completes a module they receive a certificate of completion and a voucher to purchase an interview outfit at any Goodwill retail store.
