Dismas Charities Savannah Holds Commencement Ceremony

On May 31, the Savannah facility hosted its first ever commencement ceremony for residents who completed classes in Anger Management, Substance Abuse, Parenting, and Transitional Journaling. Certificates (like the one held by a resident above) were awarded to each graduate.  The center also recognized residents for completing community service at the Humane Society, Urban Christian Academy and Savannah Feed the Hungry. Hosted and organized by Social Services Coordinator Brandon Miller, the event included the resident’s friends and family. The ceremony ended with a special Resident of the Month award going to Steven Macartos. According to Director Katina Wheeler, Macartos was singled out because he always remained current with his financial obligations, including subsistence, savings and fines, showed respect for both his peers and staff, obtained employment very quickly after his arrival, has not received one incident report while in the program, and is an active participant in and never missed any programming classes.
