On February 13, Savannah staff visited the Mary Flournoy Golden Age Program with Valentine gift baskets for each senior citizen. Director Katina Wheeler was asked by her staff what the significance of taking baskets to the elderly means to her, her statement was “If you have loved ones who are elderly, and we all do, don’t forget them during the Holiday season. While many assisted living facilities do their best to take great care of the elderly, there really is nothing that could substitute for a visit from us and bringing gifts in hand only helps to give the senior citizens a small piece of joy”. Golden Age offers a variety of recreational programming including guest speakers, local bus trips and quarterly out-of-town trips. The baskets contained personal hygiene items, snacks, juice and a Valentine card in each basket.
