Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering those who died while serving in our armed forces. It originated after the American Civil War to commemorate Union and Confederate soldiers who died in that war. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service. Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died in military service. Dismas Charities is very proud of each and every one of our veterans and, while we pay special tribute to each on Veteran’s Day, this significant day of acknowledgement is of equal importance. To those survivors of the brave men and women who gave their lives for our freedom, Dismas salutes you and those who have gone on before you in the service to our country.
