Six residents and three staff members from the Dismas Charities Tupelo, Mississippi residential re-entry center came to the rescue of the Salvation Army recently by helping set up for the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year – Empty Bowls. Annually, the Salvation Army invites chefs from about 50 local restaurants to create soups in an effort to remind participants that a bit of soup and a crust of bread are all that some people hope to eat each day. Years past have seen attendance grow to as many as 3,000, raising over $55,000. The effort in Tupelo is but one of hundreds of community service efforts by Dismas Charities which operates residential Re-entry centers in 14 states nationwide.
