Diersen Charities Albuquerque Director; Family Participate In Bataan Death March Observance

Director Mitchell Anderson, his wife Kristina and his father participated in the 30th Annual Bataan Memorial Death March marathon at the White Sands Missile Range near Las Cruces. The 26-mile march honors the more than 75,000 American and Filipino soldiers held captive by Imperial Japanese forces in the early days of World War II. On April 9, 1942, after months of fighting in Philippine jungles, the Japanese marched the soldiers over 60 miles to prisoner of war camps. Many died along the way with many more in the camps. Above are his father, Army veteran John Anderson (left) and the Director after crossing the finish line of the event sponsored by the U.S. Army Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Program. Anderson, who notes that his family participated to honor several family members who are veterans, asks that anyone interested in joining him in next year’s march, to be held March 15, contact him.
