On August 23, 2014, amid the pomp and panoply usually reserved for royalty, Dismas Charities, Inc. marked their 50th year of Healing the Human Spirit. The evening included a greeting from Louisville Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, a video tape of Dismas last half century, and dinner, all taking place while being serenaded by a 15-piece orchestra. Other significant items on the agenda were the unveiling of two oil portraits of Dismas Founder Father William Diersen, painted by Charlie Coy, and a Dismas salute by Sand Artist Joe Castillo. Capping the evening was a Dismas theme song, Redemption’s Light, written by Wayne Carroll and Simeon Amburgey and performed by Odeen Mays and the Messengers.
