Longtime Dismas advocate, Molly Leonard honored

The Louisville Metro Council’s Public Works Bridges & Transportation Committee has passed a resolution to re-name the Portland Community Center after longtime Dismas Charities advocate, Molly Leonard. The Molly Leonard Community Center, as it will now be called, was approved by the full council May 22. When Dismas first proposed opening the Portland program in 1986, Leonard was an outspoken critic of the location. She later became one of Dismas’ staunchest allies often loudly boasting that “Dismas did what they said they would do!” Those comments and others by Leonard are pres-ently posted on Dismas’ website. Leonard, who died in 2008, was a classic example of a devoted volunteer and community activist.
