The Charleston facility was recently invited to participate in the West Virginia Southern Regional Reentry Task Force – Reentry Stakeholders Meeting designed to increase the success rate of federal inmates once they release into the RRC’s and ultimately into the community. Topics covered included obtaining identification, health care, housing and others. Attendees included Charleston Director Jim Sands (above left) and keynote speaker William Cimino (right), a Bureau of Prisons (BOP) Reentry Affairs Administrator for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Office, who solicited the Dismas team’s input. Also attending were Re-entry Counselors from the three correctional facilities in Southern West Virginia (Beckley, McDowell, and Alderson), U.S. Probation, WorkForce WV Staff, the Federal Prosecutors Office, the Federal Public Defenders Office, the Bureau of Child Support Services and the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation. The Charleston staff was asked to create a checklist of crucial tasks and items that can be utilized while they are incarcerated at the RRC and eventually during supervised probation. The task force will meet quarterly.
