Manchester Brings the Community Together for Child Abuse Prevention Event

Published: February 10, 2026 Updated: February 26, 2026

Last Spring, for the second consecutive year, DCM, in collaboration with the Department of Community Based Services and many community partners, successfully hosted the Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Event.

DCM staff and clients were on hand as the event kicked off with an inspiring Awareness Walk, drawing several participants who marched from Eastern Kentucky University to Rawlings and Stinson Park, escorted by local police and fire personnel.

Unity and purpose set a positive tone for the day. Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, with the vendor booths offering free information and giveaways for both children and parents.

Notable community leaders, including Mayor Collins, Judge Clint Harris and County Attorney Haley Jo Fields, marked the occasion by signing the Child Abuse Proclamation for 2025.

Families were treated to loads of entertainment including: inflatables, an Easter Egg Hunt, live music, and lots of games. Children enjoyed mingling with First Responders on hand, exploring emergency vehicles, cruisers and fire trucks on display. There was also free food and drinks, face painting and bicycle giveaways, ensuring that everyone left with a smile.

According to the Mayor's office, this year's event attracted well over 1,000 participants, doubling last year's turnout.

DCM was grateful for the local support and looks forward to further expanding the event in the coming years.

As DCM continues to rally the community for this crucial cause, the hope remains that awareness and prevention efforts will significantly impact the Manchester community.
