Overdose Awareness: Dismas Fighting the Epidemic Together in Manchester, Kentucky and Dania Beach, Florida

In recognition of Overdose Awareness Month, Dismas Manchester hosted a Naloxone training session for clients and team members. The training was led by Elizabeth Boggs, RN, BSH, Harm Reduction Manager at the Clay County Health Department. Participants received free Narcan and training certificates. This medication is life-saving for individuals experiencing an opioid overdose. According to the 2023 Kentucky Overdose Fatality Report, 1,984 Kentuckians died from drug overdoses last year. However, Kentucky was one of eight states that showed a decline in overdose deaths. In addition, Dania Beach’s Assistant Director Sims and Word Processor Scott participated in the Dania Beach Annual Veterans Overdose Awareness Day Walk and Community Resource Fair. During this event, Dania Beach collaborated with various organizations that provided essential services such as housing, mental health support, and substance abuse treatment for veterans.
